Management
The remote keeps track of two mode choices:
- Active mode - the mode your remote is using right now.
- Default mode - the mode your remote starts with when you power it on.
Use the active mode for a temporary change. Use the default mode when you want the remote to start in that mode every time.
Set the mode in the app
Section titled “Set the mode in the app”Use the app when your phone is available and you want the clearest way to set the active or default mode. The app is also the only place to set Keypad Direct mode.
-
Open the Nexus Remote app and make sure your remote is connected.
-
Open the mode settings.
-
Choose Active to change the mode the remote is using right now.
-
Choose Default to change the mode the remote starts with next time.
Set or check mode on the remote
Section titled “Set or check mode on the remote”You can manage Basic, NexusOS, and Watch directly on the remote — no phone needed. Setting a mode and checking which one is active are two different gestures, so here they are as two quick demos.
Set a mode on the remote
Section titled “Set a mode on the remote”-
Long-press Buttons 1 and 3 together to enter Core Settings.
-
Hold the button for the mode you want — holding is what sets it as the active mode.
The top row maps to the three manual modes:
| Button | Mode |
|---|---|
| 1 | Basic |
| 2 | NexusOS |
| 3 | Watch |
Check the active mode
Section titled “Check the active mode”While you’re in Core Settings, tap a mode button to ask whether that mode is active. Tapping only reports back — it never changes the mode.
- A single haptic tap back means that mode is not active.
- A double haptic tap back means that mode is active.
Which mode should I choose?
Section titled “Which mode should I choose?”| If you want to… | Choose |

| Use a NexusOS-specific workflow | NexusOS |
| Drive a supported watch workflow | Watch |
