The Nexus remote runs proprietary firmware that has been encrypted and can only execute on the proprietary hardware. The Nexus remote also runs a proprietary bootloader that only accepts the encrypted firmware. Encrypted firmware protects any unauthorized firmware from being loaded or extracted from the remote. The firmware is updated remotely through a Device Firmware Update (DFU) process. The following documentation will provide details about the firmware versions and how to perform the DFU process.
